Special Weather Statement
Statement as of 4:44 am PDT on August 29, 2008

... Hot and dry weather over the interior of northern California
for one more day...

Very hot daytime temperatures are expected today with maximum
temperatures in the Central Valley surpassing the century mark.
Maximum temperatures in the mountains will be mostly in the 80s
and 90s with some areas surpassing the century mark. High
temperatures in the Interior Valley are forecast to top out in the
105 to 111 degree range in the Interior Valley... possibly nearing
or breaking record high temperatures in some locations. Some of
the populated mountain areas may experience temperatures from 98
to 106 today.

Although it will be very hot today... humidity levels will be
relatively low and heat indices will remain lower than the ambient
air temperatures.

Relief from the heat is expected during the weekend as high
pressure weakens... and a strong cold front and upper level trough
move over the area. Strong northerly winds behind the cold front
will usher in much cooler air. Maximum temperatures Sunday and
Monday are forecast to be some 15 to 30 degrees cooler than today
over much of the area.

Some record high temperatures for August 29th...

Redding... ... ... ... ... .111
Red Bluff... ... ... ... ..112
downtown Sacramento... .108
Sacramento executive... 105
Stockton... ... ... ... ... 108
Modesto... ... ... ... ... .106
Blue Canyon... ... ... ... .89
