Statement as of 7:12 am MST on May 18, 2012

... Red flag warning in effect from 11 am this morning to 8 PM MST
this evening...

The National Weather Service in Tucson has issued a red flag
warning... which is in effect from 11 am this morning to 8 PM MST
this evening.

* Affected area... the red flag warning is in effect for
Graham... Greenlee... Cochise... Santa Cruz and eastern Pima
counties.

* Timing... relative humidity values across the warned area are
forecast to fall below critical fire weather thresholds by mid-
morning... with sustained 20-foot wind speeds exceeding critical
fire weather thresholds by late morning.

* Winds... sustained 20-foot wind speeds of 20 to 25 mph with gusts
up to 45 mph are expected.

* Relative humidity... minimum relative humidity values are
expected to range from the upper single digits to low teens.

* Impacts... any fires that develop will have the potential for
rapid spread. Ongoing fires may experience rapid and erratic
fire growth. Outdoor burning is not recommended.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions
are either occurring now... or will shortly. A combination of
strong winds... low relative humidity... and warm temperatures will
create the potential for rapid and erratic fire growth.

Please advise the appropriate officials or fire crews in the
field of the red flag warning for portions of Southeast Arizona.
