... Flood Watch remains in effect through Thursday afternoon...

The Flood Watch continues for

* portions of North Carolina and Virginia... including the
following areas... in North Carolina... Surry and Wilkes. In
Virginia... Franklin... Halifax... Henry... Patrick and
Pittsylvania.

* Through Thursday afternoon

* periods of moderate to heavy rain are expected across the area
through this afternoon. Additional rainfall of 1 to 2 inches
can be expected. This amount of rain would likely cause
flooding along smaller creeks and streams.

* The rainfall may also be widespread enough to cause
significant rises along the Dan River during Thursday morning
and afternoon.

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts. You should monitor later forecasts and be
alert for possible flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to
flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding
develop.




Wind Advisory
Statement as of 11:11 am EST on January 7, 2009

... Wind Advisory in effect until 6 am EST Thursday...

The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has issued a Wind
Advisory... which is in effect until 6 am EST Thursday.

West winds at 15 to 30 mph... with gusts to 50 mph can be expected
across the higher elevations this afternoon and through much of
tonight. These winds in combination with very wet soil conditions
may result in downed trees across the advisory area.

Winds this strong can make driving difficult... especially for
high profile vehicles. Use extra caution.
