Winter Storm Warning
Statement as of 9:39 am EST on January 7, 2009

... Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 1 PM EST
Thursday...

The National Weather Service in Burlington continues the Winter
Storm Warning for mixed wintry precipitation across all of the
north country... until 1 PM EST Thursday.

By Thursday morning... 6 to 12 inches of snow and sleet
accumulation is expected across the St. Lawrence Valley and
the northern Adirondacks. 5 to 9 inches of snow and sleet is
expected across the Champlain Valley and most of northern
Vermont... except locally higher amounts possible in the mountains.
Across south central Vermont... snow and sleet amounts will range
from 3 to 6 inches... in addition to freezing rain accumulations up
to a quarter inch.

Increasingly... snow will transition to sleet across the northern
Adirondacks and most of central and northern Vermont during the
late morning and afternoon hours. Periods of sleet and freezing rain
will continue across south-central Vermont... with a transition to
freezing rain shifting northward to a Montpelier to St. Johnsbury
line by early afternoon. Snow will mix with sleet at times across the
St. Lawrence Valley.

The mixed precipitation will transition back to snow
tonight... with additional accumulations possible across much of
northern New York eastward across central and northern Vermont.

Periods of mixed wintry precipitation will result in hazardous
driving conditions through the remainder of today and through
tonight. Icy roads due to freezing rain are likely today across
Rutland... Windsor... and Orange counties. If you must
travel... allow plenty of extra time to reach your destination.
