Winter Storm Warning
Statement as of 11:44 am EST on January 7, 2009

... Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 7 am EST
Thursday...

A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 7 am EST Thursday.

A complex storm system will continue to impact the eastern
Catskills... Mid Hudson valley... Berkshires and Litchfield Hills
through today and into tonight... mainly across the higher terrain.

Up to one half inch of ice accretion is expected through
today... with total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches through
tonight. The combination of snow... sleet and significant icing
will likely result in isolated downed trees and power outages.

Freezing rain will be the dominant precipitation type through
most of the day today... with a period of rain expected in the
valley and southern portions of Litchfield County this afternoon as
warmer air moves in at the surface. The precipitation changes
back to light snow tonight.

This latest wintry precipitation event will result from a storm
that will move northeast up the Saint Lawrence valley today as a
secondary storm forms tracks northeast along the New England coastline.
The system will move to the Canadian Maritimes Thursday morning.

A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of snow...
sleet... and ice are expected or occurring. This will make travel
very hazardous or impossible.
