Flash Flood Watch
Statement as of 4:03 PM EDT on August 8, 2008

... Flash Flood Watch now in effect until 11 PM EDT this evening...

The Flash Flood Watch continues until 11 PM for

* the northern Adirondacks of New York... the Champlain Valley with
the exception of Grand Isle County... and the remainder of
northern and central Vermont.

* Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms will continue
across the watch area this evening before slowly waning
overnight. Expect additional rainfall amounts to average between
one quarter and one half inch across much of the area.
However... localized amounts in the 1 to 2 inch range or possibly
higher are possible... especially in the vicinity of any slow
moving thunderstorms. Given the current near saturated soil
conditions existent across the area... areas will not be able to
handle rainfall of this magnitude. As a result... the threat of
additional flash flooding will continue into this evening over a
good portion of the north country.

* Any flash flooding this evening will cause roadways to flood or
washout... will raise river and stream levels very
rapidly... possibly cause basements to flood... and increase the
threat for mudslides in steeper terrain.

Be aware of all potential impacts flash flooding could have on
you and take the necessary precautions to prepare for hazardous
weather. If traveling in a vehicle and you encounter a flooded
Road... turn around and dont drown!

Please stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio... your local media... or
go to www.Weather.Gov/Burlington for further updates on this
weather situation.
